Description
When I was first sent the screener for I Want Your Love. I was mesmerized, turned on, and quite frankly, I was jealous seeing such fearless and authentic sexual filmmaking that lived outside the adult space.
It truly excited me because it was the perfect blending of creative storytelling and sex unapologetically placed into a feature film -- two worlds that had for years been kept separate (except for John Cameron Mitchell's Shortbus). When I was asked by Tim Valenti, the executive producer and President of NakedSword.com, to help support the film as a presenting producer, I jumped at the chance.
Soon after, it became a bonafide hit at film festivals around the world with critics also awarding the film accolades and support. What happened next was even more exciting -- Naked Sword did what many only dream of -- crafting a successful Do-It-Yourself distribution model that included both DVD, VOD, and theatrical -- allowing it to live beyond the festival circuit!
The support this film has received has opened up a wide range of creative opportunities for the filmmakers. The multi-talented writer/director, Travis Mathews, has since gone on to make the highly controversial (and highly acclaimed) Interior. Leather Bar. starring James Franco, an innovative re-imagining the lost 40 minutes from the William Friedkin film, Cruising.
To add to that, I Want Your Love's creative impact on the mainstream has also opened doors for other films with explicit sexuality fused with storytelling. Taking the Palme d'Or at the world-renowned Cannes Film Festival this year was Blue is the Warmest Color, a film surrounding the relationship of a lesbian couple (featuring a 12-minute erotic scene), directed by French filmmaker Abdellatif Kechiche. Distribution deals have already been signed and even more support has poured in, proving that films like these aren't going anywhere.
I'm excited that we are allowed to present a small snippet of I Want Your Love today. You'll see why mainstream media outlets like the New York Times, London Guardian, Variety and IndieWire amongst many others have celebrated this one-of-a-kind film. If you like what you see, you can check out the full feature of I Want Your Love at
NakedSword.com. The continued success of this film will show producers, programmers, and distributors that audiences want films like these and gay sex in queer cinema is something to be celebrated, not feared!
Love Always,
